MEMBERS of Stroud Women’s Institute have donated a cheque to a play scheme which supports children with disabilities.

Members of the Stroud Evening WI met on Tuesday, May 9, for their annual meeting and presented a cheque for £177 to the Oaks Special Needs Play scheme at Rothercombe Lane in Stroud.

The money was raised from a jumble sale and a coffee morning.

Deidre Wells, president of the Stroud Evening WI, said: ’It’s a holiday play scheme for very disabled children. It’s quite a small charity and they don’t get an awful lot of money. One or two of our members have used it before.

’It’s very local and it’s a small, worthwhile charity.’

Members also discussed and voted on concerns relating to the Alleviating Loneliness scheme and the campaign to keep oceans clean called Plastic Soup: keep micro-plastic fibres out of our oceans.

The issues are part of the National Federation of the Women’s Institute.

The group meet at Steep Village Hall on the second Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm.

At their next meeting in June they will be hearing from John Davis about Bletchley Park Codebreakers. It is an open meeting and visitors are welcome.
