THOSE interested in the history of Petersfield are invited to learn more about the family who may have had the greatest influence on the town.

The Jolliffe family came to Petersfield in 1731 and until 1911 the family dominated as landowners and politically.

Local historian Bill Gosney, who will give the talk, said: “The Jolliffe Family had a huge influence over the town and its inhabitants for more than two hundred years and in the process left a lasting legacy that can still be seen today.”

Mr Gosney will be presenting his talk, The Jolliffes of Petersfield, on Thursday, November 12, at 7pm in The Physic Garden rooms off Petersfield High Street.

Tickets should be bought in advance from the Flora Twort Gallery and cost £5, or £4 for Friends of Petersfield Museum and museum volunteers.
