The annual Home-Start Butser music festival at the Half Moon in Sheet went up several gears this year to become a three-week festival of drama and music.

The fundraiser for the charity that helps young families and parents with children under the age of five who are struggling to cope, was enjoyed by more than 1,300 people and raised £10,000.

Drama was in the form of Emma, by Jane Austen performed over three nights by the excellent Havant-based CCADS theatre, with music dates featuring Queen tribute band It’s a Kinda Magic, and popular local bands Black Cherry Jam (pictured right) and Bluestone Bills (pictured below).

The fundraiser culminated in a three-day music festival weekend from July 23 to 25, when 13 bands performed across a wonderful range of genres, including reggae, Parisian jazz, jazz funk, musical theatre, boy band, and the best rock and dance bands.

Performers, technical crew and all stewards volunteered their services to ensure a thoroughly professional event safely enjoyed by the guests.

Home-Start Butser chair Terry Doubleday said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the performers, volunteers, festival organiser Robert Ingram and The Half Moon.

“All of these wonderful people enabled this festival to be so much fun and a huge success, providing us with these essential funds.

“The value of this funding is all the greater because of constraints we have had on our fundraising during Covid.

“We very much value the support we have from the Half Moon who didn’t just host the event but also supplied the stage and made a very significant donation.”

Joint event organiser Robert Ingram of Petersfield added: “I would like to thank everyone involved – the pub, volunteers, bands and everyone who supported the festival and the charity by coming along. Plans are also already under way for the 2022 music and drama festival.”

Festival bands also included Slipped Disc, GT Steel, Trevor John Band Legends, Petersfield Theatre Group, Tony Johnson and guests, Metro Swing, May Contain Nuts, Microdots, Dreamweaver, Rehab, Fleur and Oliver, and Groove Surgeons.

There will be more Home-Start Butser events at the Half Moon in the coming months including a drag night starring Tiffaney Wells on November 19, a Burns Night Ceilidh on January 28 and 29, and a St Patrick’s Day celebration on February 19.

Booking for all these and other events will open soon on the Half Moon website at www.halfmoonsheet.co.uk
