FORMER government minister Norman Baker will be among the key speakers at a free online webinar about transport pollution in the South Downs National Park.
Cars, trains and aeroplanes cause 27 per cent of all the greenhouse gas emissions in the UK.
And ahead of the international COP26 conference in Glasgow, the South Downs Network is hosting three online environmentally-
focused webinars for local people, organisations and businesses.
The first this evening (Wednesday) from 6pm to 7.30pm is on Emissions and pollution from transport and provides an opportunity to find out what is being done now – and what more needs to be done.
South Downs Network organiser Vic Ient said: “It is essential this area of emissions is tackled to reach net zero by 2050.
“October 27 is also the day when Chancellor Rishi Sunak will be announcing what support there will be for greening transport.
“Putting up rail and bus fares won’t help get people out of their cars and on to less-polluting forms of transport.”
Speaking at the webinar will be former transport minister Norman Baker, who now advises the Campaign for Better Transport, and Sally Pavey, the chair of CAGNE which opposes the expansion of Gatwick Airport.
