A HIGH SIDED van understood to be involved in maintenance work to either a street light or a rail bridge in Petersfield was left on its side on Saturday morning.

It is thought the van, with an extending arm and manlift platform, may have been blown over as the town was lashed by a fierce squall, described by a witness as a 'mini tornado' with torrential rain lasting about ten minutes.

The van ended up on the wrong side of the road on the hospital side of the Frenchmans Road rail bridge at about noon on Saturday, said a passing shopper.
