VANDALS have struck at another community pavilion in Petersfield – continuing a wave of attacks on public buildings across the town.

Petersfield Cricket Club said it had caught a “group of lads” on CCTV causing criminal damage to the Heath Pavilion in the early hours of Sunday (July 25).

A photo of the damage (pictured below) revealed security fencing had been torn down from the pavilion’s roof.

The cricket club has offered the vandals the chance to write a “sincere letter of apology” – else face a visit from the police.

It comes just a week after Petersfield Town Council said it would seek reparations from a group of vandals caught on CCTV damaging the Avenue Pavilion.

On that occasion, on Thursday, June 24, vandals caused around £5,000 of damage to the centre’s roof, solar panels and CCTV cameras.

Chairman of Petersfield Town Council’s public halls committee, Cllr John Crissey, has since confirmed footage of the incident has been passed to the police.

And he added: “The town council intends to ensure those responsible are held accountable and pay for the damage.”

A spokesman for Petersfield Cricket Club said: “To the group of lads who caused this criminal damage to the Heath Pavilion at 12.20am: we have each of your faces on CCTV, so expect a visit from the police in the next couple of weeks.

“They are pretty busy at the moment, but they will get round to you.

“If you’d rather avoid that, get in touch and we’ll see what reparations you could make to the club and its volunteers.

“A sincere letter of apology might do it. We can instruct to police to pursue or overlook as necessary.

“Mums and dads: do you know where your boys were that night? Did any of them come back with torn clothing?”

Petersfield’s deputy town mayor, Cllr Peter Clist, has also recently written to Hampshire’s new Police & Crime Commissioner, Donna Jones, raising concerns at the lack of response to telephone calls made to the police’s 101 number.
