THE PERSISTENCE and hard work of residents in Buriton has paid off after the village’s new playground was opened.

The facilities came as a result of four years of fundraising work by a group of villagers, determined to provide better play equipment for youngsters.

After farmer Susan Shone, a staunch supporter of the scheme, had performed the opening ceremony, there was a stampede of children eager to try out their playground. Tea and home-made cakes were served in the village hall.

Karen White gave a short speech at the opening event and she thanked all those whose helped make the playground possible, whether it be through hard work or generous donations.

The scheme has also been supported by Buriton Parish Council, East Hampshire District Council, Tesco and Beaver Tool Hire.

Donations are still being sought for completion of the works, which will include a hard surface path from the car park, seating and making good the old playground site.

Karen’s focus is now turning towards the family fun day event being held at Bolinge Hill Farm later this month, courtesy of Susan Shone.

With 2018 bringing the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, organisers of the event wanted to do something to remember the sacrifices made by people during the Great War, so all profits from the event, being held on June 17 between 11am and 5pm, will go to the charity Help For Heroes.

Advance tickets are available to buy from The Five Bells Buriton and The Village Inn.
