THERE were strong views for both staying in and leaving the European Union (EU) among Liss residents yesterday (Thursday).
Janet Duncan said: “My hope is we’ll leave the EU. I listened to one of the debates on Wednesday and heard that Britain had put forward 70 reforms for the EU and not one of them had been accepted. I would be happy to remain with proper reform, but I can’t see it.”
Kauser Parvin said: “I have no idea what way the vote will go, but I hope that we will vote to remain in the EU. I’ve worked in France, Belgium, Netherlands and Germany, and I would like to continue to live and work independently.”
Tim Pay said: “I think it will probably be very close. I’ve always been a Europhile. I’ve got family in Belgium and if we voted to leave I think that would be a slap in the face to them. I don’t want to see the EU countries break up, but if we vote to leave it will set the example for others. I don’t want the world to go back to how it was before the EU.”
Michael Stratford said: “I think we will vote to remain in the EU unfortunately. In 10 to 15 years people who voted remain will regret it.”
