HOPES are high that a community event which raises money for good causes will return to Clanfield this summer.
That’s despite the fact Clanfield Summer Fete organisers are still waiting for permission to stage the increasingly-popular event at South Lane Meadow.
July 13 is the date that has been provisionally circled on the calendar by Rebecca Wright and her colleagues.
She was hopeful of getting permission from Clanfield Parish Council to hold the event, like in previous years, on the meadow, but was unable to attend their last meeting.
She said: "We’re still waiting for permission at the moment so in the meantime that means everything is still on hold.
"We can’t make any bookings or make any further progress until we’ve got permission because we don’t want to book something when we haven’t got the land to hold it on.
"We might have to wait until the next parish council meeting but I have emailed the clerk so something might happen before then."
The event - previously billed as a traditional fete full of fun, games, competitions and stalls - will be the fourth if permission is granted.
What began as a celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee off Storrington Road in 2016 has grown into an annual event on South Lane Meadow that attracts hundreds of villagers.
"We are determined to build on the community spirit in this village and aim to make this fete an annual event, bringing the community together and raising money for a local charity," said Rebecca last year.
The main beneficiaries of last year’s Clanfield Summer Fete were HomeStart Butser.
