WEST Meon Garden Club’s Summer Show proved to be as popular as ever.

There were three fewer entrants than last year but they still produced an impressive number of entries – 251, only one down on last year.

There were stunning floral arrangements and an impressive array of flowers, vegetables and fruit, in spite of the recent markedly inclement weather.

Creativity was obvious in the crafts and photo classes and the cookery judge remarked on the quality of baking – a consistently high standard was achieved, with equal firsts being attributed in several classes.

Richard Beales swept the board yet again in the flowers, vegetables and fruit classes, winning seven cups and receiving a Diploma for Excellence in Horticulture.

Sara Gedye retained both the Cubitt Challenge Trophy and the G Hutchins Challenge Trophy. She also received a certificate of merit for floral art. Her son Patrick did well again, as did his sisters Lorien and Naia Boyes, getting firsts in the children’s classes and for cookery.
