After the success of the first Winter Warmers Appeal, the Free Shop in The Hub at Petersfield rail station has launched a second appeal for coats, hats, gloves and scarfs.

The appeal sees donated winter clothing given out for free to those who need it.

This second give-away comes as energy prices remain high, and some people face the harsh choice between heating or eating.

All sizes of clean items are needed (shoes are not accepted) and can be dropped off at Winton House in the High Street from Monday (January 16) to Thursday from 9.30am to 3.30pm and then at the Hub on Saturday, January 21, noon to 4pm.

The donated items will be given out on the next day, Sunday (Jan 22) from 10am to 4pm.

Winter Warmers spokesman Lucy Lomax said: “We have been asked if there will be another Winter Warmer event at the Free Shop, and yes it the answer!”

The first Winter Warmers Appeal in November saw Free Shop volunteers hand out 122 donated coats to people (pictured right).

And as well as giving away quality coats, donated hats, scarfs and gloves were also snapped up by visitors to the hub, managed by East Hampshire Community Rail Partnership.

Afterward Lucy said: “We put out a call for local people to donate good-quality coats, hats, scarves and gloves and we weren’t disappointed with the generous supply of items donated.”
