A FULLY-BOOKED driving event in Petersfield gave youngsters the chance to get behind the wheel and test their driving skills – even if they didn’t have a licence.
This year’s Autotest on Sunday, April 29, gave anyone over the age of 14 the chance to drive a car in a safe but competitive environment
They didn’t need a provisional licence, all they needed to know was how to steer and operate the pedals. An instructor was in the car with them at all times.
Organised by East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) and Southsea Motor Club, it allowed the young drivers to test their driving skills on an intricate course.
This is the eighth time Autotest has taken place at EHDC’s offices at Penns Place and the event continues to grow and become increasingly popular.
EHDC deputy leader, Cllr Julie Butler said: “Autotest events at Penns Place are always popular; they are extremely well-run and there is something really exciting to young people about getting behind the wheel and driving a car.
“Seeing the amount of excitement and enjoyment really makes it worthwhile and we are delighted that we can give the young people this opportunity.”
Young drivers interested in taking part in the next Autotest event, are asked to email EHDC Community Officer John Geoghegan on [email protected] or Chris Phillips from Southsea Motor Club on [email protected]
