THE?CLERGY at four parish churches in the west of Petersfield area were delighted when the Bishop of Portsmouth made a visit.
Bishop Christopher Foster accepted an invitation to attend a cluster Eucharist service at the historic St John the Evangelist Church at Langrish.
Enjoying the trip out to one of the more rural areas in the Portsmouth diocese, he said:?“I’m delighted to be here in this lovely church to join you for this Eucharist service.”
He also admired the 100-year-old refurbished organ in the church, for which a Songs of Praise concert was held last year.
Church wardens from the four churches gathered for the special visit, as did the vicars –?the Rev Lionel Stock, of St John the Evangelist at West Meon, and Our Lady at Warnford, and the Rev Jane Ball, of All Saints at East Meon and St John the Evangelist, Langrish.
Mrs Ball was the one who extended the invitation to the bishop.
There were two church wardens present for each of the Langrish, East and West Meon and Warnford parishes.
Langrish church has held a joint commemoration service for the centenaries of the First World War battles of Jutland and the Somme.
There is also another Songs of Praise concert on Sunday, October 16, at 6pm, when the newly restored organ will be put to good use once again.
This was renovated following a fundraising appeal to coincide with its centenary.
Parishioners in Langrish and Ramsdean are also invited to an annual village lunch at The Rookery, Ramsden, on Sunday, August 28, at 12.30pm, with food, drink and a raffle.
This is organised by the Friends of Langrish and Ramsdean.
Harvest festival is at Langrish church on October 2.
