NEW COURSES with new tutors are being offered by the Petersfield branch of the Workers’ Educational Association (WEA) from next month.

After some anxiety about its survival, the group, which is part of the UK’s major voluntary adult education organisation, has unveiled a programme of courses up to next year.

Alongside the well-tried and tested art history, history, current affairs and opera courses, the new ones are the five-week Country Houses, about great houses of the South Downs, tutored by Janet Sinclair, and Shakespeare, about the playwright’s fictional fathers and daughters, by Diana Wallsgrove, which lasts for ten weeks.

Janet is a consultant curator at Stansted Park and Diana has recently retired from teaching at Bedales School and is involved in amateur dramatics in Petersfield.

Country Houses starts on September 23 and is at the Methodist Church Hall, Petersfield, on Wednesdays, 10am to noon.

Shakespeare, on Wednesdays, 2.30-4.30pm, at the Petersfield Community Centre, starts on September 23 too.
