A GROUP of students enjoyed a science trip to the home of Estee Lauder.

The 13 students from The Petersfield School took a trip to the Whitman Laboratories in Bedford Road, Petersfield.

Whitman were hosting a STEM?Day in a bid to promote Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths subjects for students from local schools.

They were given a tour of the plant, saw how beauty and perfume products were made and visited the engineering department.

They also learned all about bottles and packaging design and manufacture and they learned about lead times and costings. Careers co-ordinator Karen Heath said: “The students were a credit to the school.

“The event ran smoothly and our hosts kept the students totally engaged.

“It was fascinating to see how many of them had not realised how STEM features in some unexpected industries.”

Two Year 8 students – Archie Bundy and Tommy Wright – won a competition to dismantle and reassemble a pump in the shortest time. Students and staff received goodie bags at the end.

Student Phoebe Clifton said: “It was interesting how many different countries are involved in the production.”
