PEOPLE who visit a Petersfield supermarket in early 2018 could get the party started in Clanfield by making a token gesture.

Clanfield Celebrations are guaranteed at least £1,000 from Tesco as part of the retailer’s blue token scheme.

The group which organised last year’s Clanfield Fete on South Lane Meadow is one of three vying for a share of customer cash.

The retailer will give £4,000 to the organisation which racks up the highest number of tokens with sums of £2,000 and £1,000 going to the second and third placed entrants, respectively.

Shoppers will be able to drop their token in the Clanfield Celebrations box at Tesco stores in the Petersfield area in January and February.

And echoing the store’s famous slogan, every little helps for Rebecca Wright and the Clanfield Celebrations team.

She said: “It would be amazing if we could get £4,000 but £1,000 would also really help and we’re guaranteed at least that.

“We’re looking to raise around £3,000 in total for next year’s event but that will pay for everything.

“If we get £1,000 it will be spent on toilets and insurance, things which really need to be done, so every token will help.”

Committee members are already drawing up plans for next year’s event, which will take place on South Lane Meadow on July 14.

Organisers are hopeful the 2018 Clanfield Fete will be even “bigger and better” than this year’s event with more stalls and community involvement planned.
