PETERSFIELD Climate Action Network (PeCAN) is linking with Alton Climate Action Network (ACAN), Alton Local Food Initiative (ALFI) to offer half-price fruit trees to local residents.

Last year PeCAN distributed more than 300 fruit trees in Petersfield, and this year, working with ACAN and ALFI, LipCAN and residents in Rowlands Castle, the target is to see 400 new trees planted in East Hampshire gardens.

Project spokesman Jenny Griffiths said: “Fruit trees offer blossom in spring, a fantastic resource for wildlife and pollinators all year round, carbon dioxide sequestration, and even fruit to eat. And they make a wonderful Christmas present.”

The trees usually cost more than £30 plus delivery but, subsidised through a grant from East Hampshire District Council, PeCAN is offering them for £15, with a stake and instructions on how to plant.

Trees are sourced from Blackmoor Fruit Farm, and will be delivered to a designated site in Alton for collection on the morning of December 17.
