Former Churcher’s student Maddy ‘twinkle toes’ Lawrence died aged 20 after being injured playing for the University of West England in Bristol.
In hospital she tragically contracted an infection and died on March 25 this year.
A charitable foundation, Maddy’s Mark, was set up to raise money for her two passions – women’s rugby and young people’s mental health.
Luke Offer and Lara Toye, both aged 17, raised £1,300 for the foundation through their walk.
Maddy’s father Simon said on behalf of the family: “We are amazed by their grit and resolution – it is very humbling. We are so appreciative that all this effort was for Maddy’s Mark and Maddy’s legacy.”
On September 12 Janine Gillard, Maddy’s aunt, and fiance Phil Taylor will set off from Churcher’s Junior School on a fundraising cycle ride to Athens in aid of Maddy’s Mark.
