THE EUROPEAN Union (EU) referendum result has drawn a mixed reaction from people in Petersfield today (Friday).

While some are delighted with the result, others are disappointed.

John Hutchinson of Chilton Candover said: “I’m a firm Remainer so I’m somewhat in shock. I’m reeling and it’s a bit sad. I think England will withdraw into itself, and become a small insular nation. I think Scotland will leave the union, and this could provoke a slight recession.”

Molly Russell of Petersfield said: “I had a feeling we would leave, but I am a little bit disappointed. I think there will be a bit of uncertainty now, but we will see what happens. I’m not sure about the future now, I think it is all very much unknown.”

Bob Phillips of Clanfield said: “I’m very pleased about the result as we are far better on our own. I would have liked David Cameron to stay as Prime Minister to see it all through. Hopefully things will be like they were before we joined the European Union.”

Richard Openshaw of Froxfield said: “I think it is an utter disaster as the global economy is too fragile. David Cameron had to resign, and I think the next Prime Minister will have to come from the Leave campaign. Hopefully we can make new trade agreements.”

Graham Beech of Portsmouth said: “I’m delighted by the result. The future is all unknown, but this is a great day for Britain as we have got our country back. I’m fed up of having two governments. Other countries might leave the European Union if they are fed up.”
