Farnham Town wrapped up their pre-season campaign with an impressive 1-0 win at home to National League outfit Eastleigh.

Rakish Bingham’s first-half goal was enough to give the Town a deserved win at The Memorial Ground.

Farnham started brightly and nearly took the lead in the eighth minute, but Owen Dean couldn’t quite get his shot away.

The Town went even closer on 13 minutes. Jack Dean drove forward down the right and played Bobby-Joe Taylor in behind, who cut the ball back to Owen Dean, but his sweeping effort was saved by Eastleigh keeper Nick Townsend.

The hosts went close again in the 27th minute when Bingham put Owen Dean through down the left, who reversed the ball to Darryl Sanders on the edge of the box, but Sanders’ effort went just wide of the left-hand post.

Farnham deservedly took the lead on 37 minutes when Sanders put Brandon Mason in on the overlap, and Mason’s cross was tapped home by Bingham.

The Town nearly doubled their advantage in the 44th minute when Bingham’s ball over the top found Owen Dean, whose effort was saved by Townsend.

The hosts continued to be on the front foot in the second half and went close twice in quick succession on 49 minutes. Trae Cook-Appiah broke through Eastleigh’s defence and saw his effort blocked by Jordan Cousins, before Taylor’s rebound was parried away by Townsend.

Farnham went close again to doubling their advantage in the 62nd minute when Billy Clifford nearly picked out the top right-hand corner from distance but was denied by an excellent diving fingertip save from Townsend.

The Town created another opportunity on 90 minutes when Cook-Appiah got in behind Eastleigh’s defence and cut the ball back to Miles Obodo, whose effort went just wide of the near post.
