PHARMACEUTICAL workers came down with a severe case of community spirit after swapping their Havant laboratory for the grounds of a Horndean landmark.
Pfizer employees didn’t need a shot of encouragement on Friday, March 17, to take part in a variety of outdoor tasks at Merchistoun Hall.
Volunteers were ready to get their hands dirty as the Horndean Community Association is in the middle of a large project to revamp the 4.5 acres surrounding the listed hall.
Their tasks included laying woodchip along the woodland walk, upcycling pallets into fencing for the children’s play area and helping to line and fill large planters.
Their handiwork impressed Denise Clarke, volunteer co-ordinator at Merchistoun Hall, who was quick to thank the six Pfizer workers for their assistance.
She added: “We are always very pleased to have volunteers join us in making Merchistoun Hall a wonderful place to visit.”
A spokesman for Pfizer, which has signed up to a rolling programme of volunteering organised by Community First, said the industrious group relished the outdoor work.
“I’ve enjoyed today and it has been good to do something constructive,” said one volunteer. “I would definitely encourage others to volunteer their time for worthy causes.”
Another added: “It’s been fantastic to work outside and see the fruits of your labour – it’s been very satisfying.”
